Scream 7: “A dream turned nightmare”… The director leaves the film after Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera!

Clearly, the Scream 7 project is accumulating disappointments. After the departure of its two main actresses, it is the director’s turn to slam the door on the project.

After the ouster of Melissa Barrera following her positions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the departure of Jenna Ortega, the Scream 7 project was seriously in decline. Today, we learn that its director, Christopher Landon, author of the 6th part, is closing the door on the project.

This is a new blow for the franchise, which was already having to cope without its star, Neve Campbell, absent from number 6.

“Unfortunately, I will not be doing the next Scream movie. I felt that the offer presented did not match the value I brought to the franchise. It was a very difficult decision.

As a woman, I’ve had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my worth, especially when it comes to Scream.”she said to explain her refusal to play in the 6th episode.

After all these setbacks, director Christopher Landon therefore chose to bow out. “I think this is the right time to announce that I have left Scream 7 since several weeks”admitted the director on X on December 23.

“This may disappoint some of you and please others. It was a dream job, it has become a nightmare. My heart breaks for everyone who was involved. Everyone”he lamented.

“But it is time to move on. I have nothing more to contribute to the debate, except that I hope that the legacy of Wes Craven will thrive and rise above the chaos of a divided world. That Kevin Williamson and he created is something incredible and I was honored to be able to enjoy, even for the briefest moment, their brilliance.”he added.

Towards a return of Neve Campbell?

For the moment, we do not know Christopher Landon’s successor, the project being on hold. However, it is not officially canceled either. Will the production agree to increase Neve Campbell’s salary so that the original actress agrees to reprise her role?

This is one of the avenues considered according to Variety. The 7th part could once again be centered on Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). In Scream VI, Gale states that Sidney has moved elsewhere with her family and we know, at the end of the film, that the journalist survived Ghostface’s attack.

According to the American media, one of the options would also be to bring back Patrick Dempsey. The latter played Detective Mark Kincaid in Wes Craven’s Scream 3 in 2000.

Voted the sexiest man in the world in 2023 by People magazine, Patrick Dempsey has not reappeared on screen since the third installment of the franchise but his name was mentioned in Scream 5 since his character is married to Sidney Prescott.

Scream 7 could therefore be a new clash between Ghostface, Sidney, Mark and Gale. But this is only speculation since no negotiations have been started with the actors.
