The Scuf brand is already well known to console gamers. From the same house as Corsair or Elgato, this brand dedicated to gaming accessories offers tailor-made controllers for PlayStation and Xbox designed for competition. It is now tackling a new area, that of the controller on PC. We were able to test the Scuf Envision Pro wireless controller and put it to the test.

Design: many possibilities
The Scuf Envision Pro controller offers a symmetrical design which is reminiscent of that chosen by Sony for its PlayStation controllers. If you are from the Xbox school with asymmetrical sticks, you will have to move on. It also offers an integrated rechargeable battery and a large central surface to recall the Japanese manufacturer. But be careful, no touchpad here, the area in question is purely decorative.

There is a small orange accent color, but apart from that, the controller has colors oscillating between gray and black, all in sobriety. Fortunately, it’s sarcastic, the LED lights are there for those who would like to shine, literally, in society with their controller.
Scuf offers a plastic design that feels solid in the hand. No crunching or twisting possible with bare hands here. The finishes seem very successful to us. The grip is again very pleasant thanks to two good-sized handles with a textured effect on the palm to prevent slipping.

Once in hand, the fingers rest very naturally near all the buttons on the controller. We will come back to this, there are quite a few of them. Each button offers a fairly pronounced plastic click with sufficient travel to give very pleasant physical feedback under the finger. For good reason, Scuf installed the same type of mechanical switch as on a keyboard.
The controller is still quite large and a little heavy in the hand. In my case, this is exactly what I’m looking for, but it might displease. We measure 290 grams on the scale.
Hardware customization
Scuf likes to offer choice, and this is evident from the first discovery of this controller. In addition to the classic buttons of a modern controller, the Envision Pro offers four buttons on the back that will fall naturally under your middle finger. More original, two buttons have been added to the left and right edges of the controller. They therefore fall below the birth of your index finger. Finally, Scuf offers 5 additional small buttons on the front of the controller. They can allow you to change profiles, adjust the sound, or other small actions of the kind.
My only personal complaint will be the buttons on the back of the controller, those that fall under the middle finger. I find them too easy to squeeze by mistake. As long as you’re in a slightly nervous game, simply pressing the controller too hard in your hands can trigger the buttons by accident. Of course, it is possible to deactivate them.

The Scuf Envision Pro controller is also customizable in terms of its design. You will thus be able to change the analog sticks and the rear buttons of the controller. If, for example, you prefer sticks with a hollow at the thumb like me, rather than a dome shape, you will be served. To exchange the paddles, you will need to use a small tool provided by the brand. It’s a bit of a shame on this point, Microsoft offered better with its Xbox Elite controller with buttons that can be removed by hand, thanks to a good quality magnetic system.
Without changing parts, you will also find small toggles at the rear which will allow you to adjust the travel of the triggers. You will therefore be able to opt for a short race in competitive shooting games, allowing you to trigger a shot very quickly, or on the contrary a long race for motorsport games, with more nuance.
Compatibility
Scuf announces simple compatibility with Windows 10 and Windows 11 for its controller. The brand specifies that the controller does not work with Mac and iOS. It must be said that Scuf uses a heavy software interface for the complete management of the device which one imagines requires finely developed drivers for the Microsoft OS.
This is the opportunity to indicate that the controller can be connected using the 2 meter braided USB-C cable provided, but also without any cable with the small USB Type-A dongle provided. If you want to connect the controller to a modern PC, Scuf has provided this with a USB Type-A to USB Type-C adapter.
This is a proprietary wireless connection, the controller is not Bluetooth compatible. It cannot also connect to an Xbox or PlayStation console, unlike certain competing controllers. Finally, the controller has a 3.5mm jack port for connecting headphones.
Software and setup
As mentioned above, Scuf offers a very complete software solution with its controller. In fact, this is the first time, I think, that I’ve seen such extensive parameters for adjusting a controller. Impressive for what remains the manufacturer’s first attempt. All this happens in Corsair’s iCue software, which also allows you to manage the brand’s other peripherals.
In this software, you will be able to completely reassign all the buttons on the controller. And the options are very numerous: you can assign a classic controller key, or a keyboard shortcut, but also the launch of a more complex application or macro. If we are very satisfied with the functions offered, we remain unsatisfied with the ergonomics. Navigating the software and adjusting the controller is not the easiest or most pleasant. We get a little lost in the submenus, and we sometimes have a little difficulty understanding what has been correctly saved or not. Nothing dissuasive either, once you take the time to adjust your controller, it’s very satisfying.
It doesn’t stop there, you will also be entitled to adjustment options for the analog sticks and triggers. It’s more classic, but very appreciable.
Autonomy and recharging
The Scuf Envision Pro controller includes a non-interchangeable battery. During our gaming sessions, it was able to provide around 15 to 17 hours of battery life. Of course, this depends on the activation of the LEDs and the number of vibrations caused by the game. In any case, this remains a rather good autonomy considering the competitors, in particular the DualSense from PlayStation.
Charging is done via the USB-C port on the controller. Unfortunately, this is done at the classic USB speed of 5W, and not with fast charging.

The Scuf Envision Pro controller is available from 199.99 euros. A 100% wired version is offered at 149.99 euros, or 50 euros less.

They have a very specific target, competitive players who want to have fun with a peripheral capable of adapting very precisely to their way of playing. We are in a niche “sport” category. The majority of players should opt for a more classic controller for less than 100 euros.
