A Ranked mode has been something that has been sorely missing in Warzone for years, despite constant requests from players from the start. And recently, CoD legend Seth “Scump” Abner explained that the lack of this mode could be the reason other games are starting to take over.
While Warzone quickly established itself as one of the most important games after a stellar launch, the Battle Royale slowly lost its value in the eyes of gamers.
Activision said that between the first quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022, they lost 50 million players, due in part to lower Vanguard premium sales and less interest in Warzone.
This loss of players was particularly accelerated when the transition between Verdank and Caldera was made. This new map quickly disappointed many fans who either turned to Rebirth Island or simply gave up on the game.
Warzone has faced stiff competition from games like Apex Legends, which has a Ranked mode.
But while this new map has clearly not been unanimous, many fans of the game are still waiting for a proper Ranked mode to be introduced to the Battle Royale, and recently Scump spoke about it.
After H3CZ said that Apex Legends and Valorant’s Ranked modes help them excel, Scump explained: “Ranked games are… that’s right. This is what people want to play. Ranking is synonymous with longevity and the desire to play. Because you want to stay on the top of the leaderboard and if you are on the top of the leaderboard you can play against streamers and pro players. So you make your name known.”
Scump is not the first to say that a Ranked mode would be beneficial for Warzone. Since the launch of the Battle Royale, many players have been crying out for its addition every day.
And while the devs have said they’re interested in adding a Ranked mode to Warzone, it’s clear that for now they’d rather focus on Warzone 2, which is expected to arrive sometime around March 2023.
