Scump wants jetpacks back on Call of Duty

Call of Duty scene veteran Scump recently reacted to the news that Infinity Ward will lead the development of CoD 2022 and Warzone 2 by calling for a return to the era of jetpacks.

Infinity Ward, one of the main rotating developers of Call of Duty is highly regarded by the community due to his work on the Modern Warfare franchise.

Lately, the studio led the development of Modern Warfare (2019) and Warzone which are arguably some of the franchise’s most successful titles (especially Battle Royale).

Today, following Black Ops Cold War, led by Treyarch, and Vanguard, led by Sledgehammer Games, Activision Blizzard confirmed that IW will be taking the lead in the upcoming CoD 2022 and Warzone.

While rumors suggest that CoD 2022 will be Modern Warfare II (a sequel to MW19), Seth “Scump” Abner from OpTic is hoping for something totally different as the iconic OpTic Gaming player wants to return to the era of jetpacks.

Scump wants Infinity Ward to bring jetpacks back to CoD

Although IW went back to basics with a ground game with Modern Warfare (2019), its previous game, Infinite Warfare was one of three jetpack installments in the franchise.

Although the Battle Royale Blackout and Black Ops 4 could benefit from the presence of a grappling hook which brought verticality, CoD has not reused the jetpack mechanic since IW in 2016.

And according to Scump who is one of the most successful Call of Duty players in history, the franchise should bring jetpacks back.

Yet reluctant to welcome jetpacks in 2027 “jetpacks suck“, five years later, Scump seems to have changed his mind about this mechanic.

So, is he simply nostalgic for this era or is he bored with the ground games? Hard to say.

Anyway, at the moment everything indicates that CoD 2022 will be a new ground game. However, this renewed passion for jetpacks could well give ideas to Treyarch for 2023.
