The 5G antennas arouse fear and skepticism in the population. Esotericists and fantasists protest against the new cell phone technology and speak of “forced radiation”. Moderate circles speak of harmful effects due to electrosmog.
5G critics can be found everywhere. Also in the Grisons community of Scuol. Swisscom has been building a 5G antenna on the church tower in Ftan since 2019. There were numerous objections to this.
This is one of the reasons why the local council of Scuol rejects the project. His reasoning: The population is very uneasy about 5G cell phone systems. That comes from a letter which is available to the newspaper “Südostschweiz”.
The municipality as the owner says no
The municipality board decided this not in its public law function as building authority, but in the private law function as the landowner of the church tower. Because the tower in which the cell phone system was to be installed belongs to the municipality.
“Since the community will definitely not make the church tower available to the builder, it is now clear that the building project in question cannot be carried out due to a lack of building permits under private law,” writes the Scuol community board. The municipality board wants to make land available to Swisscom outside the construction zone.
Objections in 4 out of 10 cases
“The mobile radio signal is needed where it is requested,” writes Swisscom when asked by Blick. Churches would therefore be well suited as locations for cell phone systems. “They are mostly centrally located, have a certain height and can optimally supply the desired area from there,” continues Swisscom.
According to the current spatial planning law, the antennas may only be built outside the building zone if there is no other option.
In general, the expansion of the 5G network is resinous. 40 percent of the projects are objected to. “It is becoming more and more difficult to find new antenna locations,” writes a media spokeswoman. (gif)
