Since its release, Sea of Thieves is constantly evolving. Like buying a ship to become a Captain?
If you want becoming a Captain in Sea of Thieves, you will necessarily have to buy a ship. Whether it is the sloop, the brigantine or the galleon, you will be able to buy your ship by launching a game, before entering the world. When you are in the main menu, go to the “Play” tab and then choose “My Ships” the new menu that has appeared.
Here you can choose tobuy one of three boats, at a cost in gold. You can also own a boat in each category, which will require you to have a small reserve of gold coins to be able to make this investment.
- Sloop → 250,000 gold
- Brigantine → 375,000 gold
- Galleon → 500,000 gold
You will then be able to name your ship, and validate the operation. Once you’ve purchased your first ship, you’ll automatically become a Captain, giving you access to some things that a regular sailor can’t unlock. Note that you can later change the name of your ship, if necessary.
You can, for example, modify several parts of the ship (table, bed, etc.), but also save the cosmetics you have chosen, so as not to waste time at the start of the game. On the gameplay side, being a Captain gives you access to more things, including a Captain’s Journal, which can be stolen and traded, like Emissary Flags. This traces your history and allows you to have an overview of your past actions.
Last important point to mention about buying a boat in Sea of Thieves, if you want to buy a sloop, for example, you will have to delete the existing one. Otherwise, you have to wait until you have reached legendary ship status to get another one of the same size, which will obviously require several hours of play.
