Sean “Diddy” Combs’ apology video in response to the hotel video shocker is not well received by some celebrity colleagues.
After the release of the hotel video with dramatic scenes between rapper and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs (54) and a woman from 2016 The music star spoke personally on Sunday via the US broadcaster “CNN”.
Sean “Diddy” Combs: “I’m disgusted”
In a one minute video, in which he addressed the disturbing footage, he admitted that he was truly sorry for his “inexcusable behavior.” The original clip shows him hitting, kicking and dragging a woman in the hallway of a hotel. The woman is said to be Comb’s girlfriend at the time, Cassie Ventura (37). However, he did not mention her name in the apology clip.
He went on to say in the apology video that it’s “so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you have to do it.” At the time of the attack in 2016 he was “devastated”. “My behavior in this video is inexcusable,” said the US star. “I take full responsibility for my behavior in this video. I am disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it and I am disgusted now.”
Shortly after the attack, Combs “sought professional help” and began going to “therapy and rehab” regularly. “I’m so sorry, but I’m committed to becoming a better person every day,” he concluded. “I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m really sorry.”
Clear criticism from Cassie Ventura’s lawyers
Cassie Ventura’s legal team immediately criticized Sean “Diddy” Combs’ apology video. “Combs’ recent statement is more about himself than the many people he hurt,” said Meredith Firetog of the law firm Wigdor LLP in a statement from Page Six. It continues: “When Cassie and several other women came forward, he denied everything and claimed that his victims were looking for a quick deal.”
The singer filed a lawsuit against Combs in November 2023, alleging that he had, among other things, physically abused and raped her during their decade-long relationship. Although Combs called her claims “offensive and outrageous,” the two settled for an undisclosed sum just one day after the lawsuit was filed. This settlement was “in no way an admission of wrongdoing,” his lawyers said at the time.
Celebrities criticize ‘disingenuous’ apology video
Numerous fans and celebrities have now also spoken out. Sean “Diddy” Combs’ “disingenuous” apology video didn’t go down well with them.
After the video was released, Aubrey O’Day, 40, one of Diddy’s longtime critics, accused the music mogul of failing to apologize to Ventura. “Diddy didn’t apologize to Cassie,” the former Danity Kane member wrote on X and in her Instagram stories. “He apologized to the world for seeing what he did.” She also criticized Combs for that he maintained a posting from December 2023in which he claimed that anyone who accused him of abuse was looking for a “quick deal” and was trying to “destroy his reputation.”
Diddy’s post also caught the attention of his rival 50 Cent, 48, who has been very open about the numerous allegations against the rapper. 50 Cent questioned Combs’ media strategy and suspected that no one would believe his apology because of the timing. “That won’t work, who is advising him right now?” the rapper wrote on Instagram and added “bad move.” 50 Cent also posted the same December 2023 statement from Combs that O’Day also questioned. The lie detector test showed this was a lie… Maury Vibes,” the 48-year-old said of the post at the time.
Although the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office will not file charges against Combs due to the statute of limitations, the US musician believes the court of public opinion will hold him accountable. “They know they can’t charge him for what we saw, but they also know we can’t see what we saw,” he added.
