Sean Penn: He helps with more than 12,000 corona tests

Shortly after the severe earthquake in Haiti in 2010, Sean Penn (59, "The Interpreter") launched Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE). During the corona crisis, the actor helped out with CORE in Los Angeles, among other places. Volunteers keep facilities running corona tests so emergency workers like the fire department can handle incoming emergencies. There is also a similar CORE test site in Malibu.

70 volunteers

On the organization's website, it is noted that 12,000 tests had already been carried out by CORE by April 13. Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, 49, praised the effort. Almost 70 volunteers are currently supposed to look after four out of 30 test facilities in the L.A.

Throughout the years, Penn hadn't come up with such an "exceptional, holistic leadership" as Garcetti said, the actor said on US television. Thanks to the mayor's trust, it was possible to "mobilize the helpers very quickly". Penn hoped that similar projects along the lines of this would be feasible across the country.
