Sean Penn is currently filming a documentary about the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Now he declared that the war was a “brutal mistake”.

Sean Penn (61) has expressed his solidarity with Ukraine. The US star is currently in the country to film a documentary about the Russian invasion. In a statement on Twitter he called the war a “brutal mistake”.

“It’s already a brutal mistake that has taken lives and broken hearts, and if he doesn’t back down, I believe Mr. Putin will make a terrible mistake for all of humanity,” Penn said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (44) and the Ukrainian people have “risen to become historical symbols of courage and principles”. He continued: “If we allow that [die Ukraine] fighting alone, our soul is lost as America.”

Ukraine is grateful to Sean Penn

The Ukrainian government confirmed Penn’s whereabouts on Thursday (February 24) in a statement, which is available to the US news magazine “Newsweek”, among others. The actor and director came to Kiev “to document all the events that are currently taking place in Ukraine and to tell the world the truth about Russia’s invasion of our country.” Sean Penn is among “those who support Ukraine in Ukraine today”. Ukraine is “grateful” to him for “this proof of courage and honesty”.

The more people there are who, like him, are “true friends of Ukraine” and “support the fight for freedom,” the faster “the heinous invasion by Russia” can be stopped, it said.
