An initially unknown alcoholic driver triggered a major search operation in St. Johann in Tirol on Thursday night: after the man had left a trail of devastation and ended up in the ditch with his BMW, he fled. After an hour-long operation, the wanted man – a 30-year-old German – was finally found in the early hours of the morning very drunk at his workplace.

At around 1 a.m., a witness reported to the police in St. Johann that there had been a traffic accident at the Speckbacherstrasse/Römerweg intersection, with the car getting stuck in the adjacent ditch. “The witness also stated that he had seen an apparently heavily intoxicated man who had walked away from the scene of the accident in an unobserved moment,” the investigators say Finally patrol damaged traffic signs, road markings, small trees that have been torn out and broken wooden posts over a length of around 50 meters.
