Season is open – the climbing maxis get started at the Hilmteich

New operator has reopened the high ropes course in Graz’s Leechwald. Eleven courses ensure fun and thrills in the natural jewel. We dared to climb.

Step by step, one foot carefully placed in front of the other – and it shakes at a dizzy height! This is how the first daredevils struggle through the brand new course in the climbing forest at the Hilmteich in Graz. “Even as a student, I thought to myself, this forest is the perfect place for a climbing garden,” Jakob Kalas from Graz looks back. Now his dream has come true. Safe climbing from start to finish Until recently, the high ropes course was operated by Wiki, but the contract with the city of Graz was terminated. Kalas, who has already built several high rope courses, seized this opportunity to set up his own climbing kingdom. “I can hardly believe that after months of hard work we can finally start,” says the sports scientist. A security flaw that has now been fixed. Now you hook in at the beginning of the route and are secured all the way to the end. Big and small, young and old – the garden with eleven courses full of jerky stairs, swaying buckets and wire ropes has something to offer for everyone. A special thrill: You climb 20 meters up a tree using boulder holds, enjoy the view over the Hilmteich pond and then rappel down again. The Graz climbing forest is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the Easter holidays. Oskar even boldly offered the politician to alert the rescue service – but that was not necessary. Although Hohensinner’s nerves weren’t as strong as steel cables, they withstood the mental and physical exertion with a little trembling.
