  • In Turkey, for the first time in the country’s history, there is one runoff lost the presidency. Polling stations were open between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (CEST) on Sunday.
  • Late in the evening it became clear: Recep Tayyip Erdogan from the AKP took around 52 percent of the votes and remains Turkish President. His challenger Kemal Kilicdaroğlu from the Kemalist-social-democratic CHP came to around 48 percent.
  • A run-off election was necessary because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the votes in the first ballot.
