Second division – Austria Lustenau with work, FAC with victory

In the fight for promotion to the 2nd football league, leaders Austria Lustenau and the FAC continue to march in step. On Friday, Vorarlberg struggled to win 1-0 (0-0) at bottom juniors Upper Austria, Vienna won 4-0 (2-0) at Rapids Amateurs, also thanks to a treble by Anthony Schmid. This means that FAC is still one point behind Lustenauer with six games to go. The next round will start on Easter Monday.

Lustenau had to compensate for the loss of top goalgetter Haris Tabakovic against the Juniors in Pasching and seemed to fail in this task. Although the superior guests created several good chances against the stragglers, they did not put the ball in the goal for a long time. U21 team player Muhammed Cham was only there in the finish (84′), in injury time the juniors missed two good chances. That the 24-time goal scorer Tabakovic, who moves to Vienna Austria in the summer, may be out longer with a thigh injury , could still be a disadvantage for the Vorarlbergers in the promotion race. On Monday, Dornbirn will be the next straggler (2.30 p.m.), the FAC will be challenged at home by the GAK (4.45 p.m. / live ORF Sport +). On Friday, coach Mitja Mörec’s squad made short work of Rapid’s two-man team. Schmid was the man of the match. The younger brother of Freiburg kicker Jonathan Schmid ensured the half-time lead (24′, 30′) and increased the lead to 4-0 after a self-awarded penalty in the 54th minute. In between, Marco Krainz (49th) entered the shooter list directly from the penalty spot. The highest win of the season was also the ninth three-pointer in the last ten games (goal difference 20:3). Blau-Weiss Linz retained third place (43) despite a 1:2 (0:1) defeat in Horn FC Liefering, also not eligible for promotion, came within two points of the Upper Austrians thanks to a brace from Oumar Diakite with a 4-1 (1-0) win in Dornbirn. Amstetten is fifth after a 2-1 (0-0) home win over St. Pölten. St. Pölten is one of those clubs whose license for the coming season was initially denied on Wednesday was lost, Wacker Innsbruck was able to record at least a partial success on the field. Despite the lack of salary payments, the Tyrolean team managed to draw 1-1 (0-1) at home against GAK. Vorwarts Steyr converted a 0-1 deficit at break into a 3-1 win at home against Kapfenberg – the third in the last four games – and as 13th increased the distance to the relegation places. The Young Violets are three points behind Steyr in 14th place, losing 0:1 (0:1) to sixth-placed Lafnitzers.
