Ambulance calls for termination of training

Fortuna Düsseldorf had to announce a “very, very bitter diagnosis” after coach Daniel Thioune prematurely ended the session on Saturday morning. Midfielder Jorrit Hendrix seriously injured his arm and required surgery later that day.
Actually, at Fortuna Düsseldorf, a completely normal training session was on the agenda. The evening before, the second division team suffered a setback in the promotion race with a 2-2 win against Hamburger SV, and now the reservists and substitutes should also get their burden. The diagnosis followed a little later, Hendrix is out with a “complex fracture of the right forearm” until further notice, as the club announced. The Dutchman is to be operated on “today” and a return this season seems out of the question. The 28-year-old missed the game against HSV due to a yellow card suspension, but had worked his way into a regular place in the past few weeks. The midfielder is now threatened with a bitter farewell from Düsseldorf, as his contract expires after this season.
But what actually happened? According to consistent reports, Hendrix crashed into team-mate Nicolas Gavory and then fell to the ground, screaming in pain. The medical staff immediately rushed to the injured person, who apparently had accidentally fallen on his arm. “Some of my colleagues and the players heard,” said Thioune, “that it cracked.” Opponent Gavory was shocked and tried several times to explain the process.
Shortly thereafter, the ambulance drove up to the Fortuna training ground. After lengthy treatment on the lawn, Hendrix was carted away by golf cart and taken to the rescue vehicle. The fears that Thioune had expressed were then confirmed in the hospital: broken bones, surgery, long break. “The diagnosis is here and it’s very, very bitter,” Fortuna tweeted, ending her message with the words: “Get well soon, Jorrit.”
