Second League – GAK series ends at Admira, pursuers win

GAK’s winning streak in the 2nd football league is broken. After five previous successes, the superior table leader did not get beyond a goalless draw in the away game of the 11th round against eighth-placed Admira on Friday evening. The lead of the superior league leaders in the table is now nine points. SV Stripfing became the new first pursuer thanks to a 3-0 win in Lafnitz. Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz and Ried also have 19 points.

Third-placed Vorarlberg will only be in action at home against Horn on Saturday. The fourth-placed Innviertler defeated Vienna 4-1 in front of their own crowd and, like Stripfing, took three points for the third time in a row. As in the Schlager in the Südstadt, no goals were scored in the meeting between the fifth FAC and the still winless and defeated bottom team Amstetten in Vienna. With an appealing atmosphere in the Südstadt, an extremely competitive game developed with few chances to score. After the break, goals were more likely, especially from the home side. Jakob Tranziska missed (49th), Reinhard Young failed with a header past Jakob Meierhofer (64th). In the finish things got tricky twice for the Graz team, as Young (91st) and former Rapid player Albin Gashi (93rd) narrowly missed the goal. The point win can therefore be seen as a bit flattering for the leader. Messner’s troops were only really dangerous when Lichtenberger’s free kick (75′) came. For Admira it was the fourth draw en suite, the Lower Austrians have now been without a win for six rounds. The gap to the top of the table is still enormous at 13 points. The Graz team could therefore live better with the division of points. Dieter Elsneg’s contract extension had already become known before the game. The 33-year-old extended his contract as GAK sports director, which expired in the summer, until the end of June 2026. There is also an option for another year. “I’m looking forward to pushing the further development of the club forward together with everyone in the club,” explained Elsneg. The Lafnitz defense completely missed the first half, and after less than 30 seconds the ball was in the net. Moritz Wels finished ice-cold, the 19-year-old cooperation player from Austria Vienna continued his scoring streak with his fourth goal in the last three games. In the fourth minute, Darijo Pecirep made it 2-0 with a header from a Güclü corner. The 32-year-old Croatian scored a brace before the break, overcoming Andreas Zingl with a shot from a tight angle after Gartner’s free-kick cross (39′). Mark Grosse (Ried) same. While the Lafnitz team only got one point from the last three games, Stripfing secured their third win in a row. Ried can also point to this record, and the Innviertel team also extended their unbeaten streak to five matches. David Bumberger with a lightning goal (2nd), Wilfried Eza (57th) and Belmin Beganovic (74th) after counterattacks and Nikki Havenaar (92nd) were successful. The Viennese had meanwhile equalized through Kelvin Boateng (42nd). The highlights of FAC against Amstetten were limited to shots on the crossbar on both sides. For the Lower Austrians, who are at the bottom of the table, it was only their second point of the season after six defeats.
