Second term of office for Kretschmann ?: Greens extend their lead in the state

Second term of office for Kretschmann?
Greens extend their lead in the state

The CDU has not succeeded in convincing voters in Baden-Württemberg in the past few weeks. On the contrary: The Union is losing in a recent poll and is clearly behind the Greens. But their candidate and incumbent Prime Minister Kretschmann cannot shine either.

Shortly before the state elections in Baden-Württemberg, the Greens once again increased their lead over the CDU according to a new survey. According to a survey by Infratest dimap for ARD, Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann's Greens received 33 percent of the vote and the CDU only 25 percent. The union with top candidate Susanne Eisenmann loses two points compared to the survey by Infratest dimap for the SWR and the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" from four weeks ago. But the Greens also lose a point.

While the green-black coalition is losing ground in the corona pandemic, AfD and FDP are gaining ground. The largest opposition party, the AfD, rose by two points to twelve percent, the FDP by one to ten percent. The SPD loses one point and is now level with the Liberals at ten percent. The left can gain one point, but would not make the jump over the five percent hurdle with four percent. The new state parliament will be elected on March 14th.

In a personal comparison, the head of government clearly outperforms his CDU challenger in terms of popularity ratings. According to the survey, 67 percent are very satisfied or satisfied with Kretschmann's work – a minus of two points. 29 percent are less or not at all satisfied. Minister of Education Eisenmann is rated much more critically. Your work is approved by 21 percent, and it also loses two points. 55 percent are not or not at all satisfied.

When asked who they would vote if the Prime Minister were to be elected directly, the people of Baden-Württemberg have a clear preference: 65 percent of those surveyed would choose Kretschmann, 17 percent for Eisenmann. 59 percent are currently satisfied or very satisfied with green-black – here, too, a minus of 2 points. 38 percent are less or not at all satisfied. Almost half of the citizens (48 percent) want the next state government to be led by the Greens, while 33 percent want the CDU to lead a coalition after the election.

The polling institute Infratest dimap surveyed 1185 voters in Baden-Württemberg from Monday to Wednesday this week. The fluctuation range is 2 to 3 percentage points.
