Second win in four days
DFB women shoot classics impressively
Even a hectic start does not upset the German women’s national soccer team. Against Norway, the DFB-Elf convinced as before against Australia and celebrated the second victory in a row. Two youngsters make the decision.
The German soccer players have confirmed their upward trend in the prestige duel with Norway. In the international classic, the young selection of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg deservedly won 3: 1 (2: 1) after an early deficit and built on the strong performance in the 5: 2 against Australia three days earlier.
“We really played two great games. We were able to show that we are on the right track,” said Sara Däbritz on ZDF and praised the new generation: “We are happy that we have our chicks with us.” The meticulous national coach praised the offensive performance with eight goals in two games, but also sees room for improvement due to the sometimes “lack of precision”.
In Wiesbaden, Guro riding (4th) led the guests who, before kick-off, set an example with the words “Human Rights” on their palms. Laura Freilang (8th), Linda Dallmann (17th) and Paulina Krumbiegel (62nd) turned the duel between the ex-world champions in favor of the playful DFB team, which, as hoped, was challenged more in the test 15 months before the European Championship in England.
In terms of personnel, Voss-Tecklenburg changed their team to four positions. Alexandra Popp moved into the starting line-up after a bruised lower leg, and Ann-Katrin Berger was allowed to start in goal instead of the regular number one Merle Frohms. In addition, Dallmann and Freilang were new to the starting line-up, only the defensive back four remained unchanged. But that was overcome early by the aggressive Norwegians. After a badly cleared long ball, the ex-Wolfsburg Caroline Hansen put through on horseback, which Berger gave no chance.
Relief after a positive test
The German team replied quickly, however. After a corner kick by Däbritz, who was once again strong as a bear, the central lurking outdoor area took off. The Eintracht Frankfurt goalscorer scored her seventh goal in her sixth international match. At high speed it went back and forth, both teams put pressure on and switched quickly. The second round also started rather hectically. But this time the DFB-Elf survived the initial phase unscathed, then followed an excellent co-production of two youngsters: Substitute Jule Brand (18) sent Krumbiegel (20) steeply, who executed it ice cold. The update of the alleged corona case Felicitas Rauch provided relief before kick-off. VfL Wolfsburg announced that the quarantine quartet left by the national team around the defender had negative test results.
The “uniquely weak positive result” at Rauch last Saturday could not be confirmed according to the association. The health department lifted the quarantine, those affected return to training with the German master.
