Assembly

As announced above, the entire packaging of the table, but also certain elements, are quite heavy and bulky. We reiterate our recommendation concerning the assembly, at least, with two people. For the future, the universe secretlab emerges at the heart of the packaging, which is marvelously well laid out and where there is very little empty space (if at all). The elements are well separated and come out of the box with a certain ease. If this is your first table, the manufacturer leaves an assembly manual.

The assembly plan is intended to be concise and precise, while each component has a label allowing the complementary elements to be identified at first sight. Note also the effort of the manufacturer who drastically reduced the number of parts to facilitate assembly.

Regarding the installation, if you ignore the passage where you have to turn the table, asking to combine strength and dexterity, nothing to report. The products have exemplary finishes, the holes fall opposite each other and protections are positioned in dangerous places.

Contrary to MAGNUS classic, the PRO XL does not benefit from the advantages of mounting by magnetism. This is most likely the result of the large table size. Indeed, if the elements were magnetic, they would be all the more difficult to install. However, as the office is mechanized, it will be necessary to carry pay particular attention to electrical cables during assembly and make sure to connect everything properly.

Finally, to overcome all the same a slight adjustment difficulty, it is when you have to extend the magnetic mat over the whole of the table that things get a little complicated. Indeed, with some exceptions, you have to do it several times before installing it parallel. Small point to finish, targeted at users who do not wish to acquire a magnetic matthe table takes fingerprints easily, especially with a matte black color.

Use and constraints

Now let’s get to the heart of the matter. The table is intended to be smooth and free to be used from one end to the other. No superfluous plastic edging or RGB bulky and useless, in short, it acts as a support… and that’s it! For this, its 1.7 m long offers 0.8 m of additional argument in width, which is just huge. As said above, this can even become a problem depending on its final position. Remember to take into account the openings of your doors and corridors, because moving around will not be easy.

_DSC6747
It is thus possible to place a large number of products as you can see in the photo above. In our case, it is two screens accompanied by a large tower. For reference, the first is the XG32VC, a 32″ curved screen while the other is the MAG274QRF-QD, 27″. The set installs properly while leaving enough room for many other peripherals and without feeling oppressed. A good solution to remove a tower that collects dust or blows while remaining on the ground.

It is good that we are talking about the ground since secretlab does not do things by halves and offers magnetic cable covers to attach to the feet you prefer. Very easy to use, they improve cable management, especially with the use of the tray provided for this purpose, directly under the bottom of the table. To finish meeting your expectations, the footprint of the MAGNUS is very linear and restricted.

As a result, it becomes easier to clean underneath in the absence of long legs and loose cables. Small downside, however, the feet are different from the initial version of the MAGNUS and they will not be able to serve as a stop against your complaints. So be very careful during installation if you don’t want the desk to touch your wall or damage it when going up/down.

Motorization

Although this is the most interesting point, it is also very simple. The table has two mechanical feet, easy to install, allowing, using a dedicated control, to raise/lower the table between 650 and 1250 mm. The manufacturer gives the possibility of adjusting among three programmable positions directly on the lift on the right front part of the platform. The positions are haptic (they react to touch) and are very sensitive. We’ve triggered it a few times just by touching it.

However, do not panic, an anti-collision system allows the table to stop if it feels resistance. She pauses a little before moving in the opposite direction to that in which it forces. In addition, a security is provided so as not to activate the buttons inadvertently. It is thus possible to cut the power supply to the table using the button on the far right. If the arrows, numbers and the like are on, then the table is too. Otherwise, entirely darkit will not be possible to move it.

Finally, in addition to the programmable buttons, the arrows allow you to adjust the height of the MAGNUS PRO XL on the fly. Interesting for making initial settings or even minor modifications during use. In short, a simple concept, but well thought out and efficient. When moving, the motors are audible, but far from unpleasant.

The photos above show the minimum and maximum areas of the table, along with a user who is 1.69m tall.

List of available accessories

If the table MAGNUS PRO XL seems relatively complete, we regret the lack of helmet support or even cable grommets. Good and bad news, it is possible to acquire these accessories, however, it will cost a few euros more. Which can quickly become a substantial budget, when you know the initial selling price of the table being 999 €. However, for those who want to pay the price, here are all the accessories available:

1 – RGB with MAGRGB

What would a sober office be without the possibility of integrating a little RGB? For once, this is the least “useful” cosmetic element and really to choose if you have room in your budget. To change nothing, the whole is very qualitative and the band is magnetized under the rear part of the desk. It is possible to use the supplied remote control or link the MAGRGB to your phone via the Nanoleaf application to control it at any time. In short, an interesting, but secondary cosmetic element. Note, however, that the visual feedback, especially in a dark atmosphere, is truly sublime.

2 – Cable passes

Although they are not provided basic and that their usefulness is with the appreciation of each one, they do not remain about it less qualitative and interesting. If we go beyond their price, they allow you to finalize the cable management of your desk and run the cables to the cable gland located under the table. Note that there are some associated with game licenses.

3 – The magnetic helmet support

What more can we say, an essential element in the office and for any gamer, the headset holder is positioned where you want it, by magnetization. The latter is enough to hold any helmet.

4 – The screen support

We end with the best and above all the element that allows us to respond to many problems. In fact, when testing the MAGNUS table, we were faced with the problem of positioning the screen supports (solo, double or even triple) which hardly passed or were difficult to use. To overcome this problem, secretlab takes the plunge with its own screen support available in two versions: In order not to change anything in their habits, the engineers at secretlab took into account user feedback and needs. For the moment, the screen support is one of the most intuitive and practical that we have had in hand. The assembly is quite innate.

_DSC6646
The foot slides easily into the back of the desk (be careful if you are equipped with the MAGRGB). Tightening is done from above and is disconcertingly easy. Note that the arms are not yet fixed to avoid clutter, but also adding unnecessary weight.

_DSC6681
Thereafter, everything is planned to best accommodate your screens. The manufacturer has even taken into account screens with lower VESA mounting (many screens have this concern because of the desired design) by integrating suitable rings and screws as shown in the photos to come.

Finally, all that remains is to attach the screen to the support and adjust the force screws in order to prevent them from rotating due to the weight. It is still possible to move them by forcing a little more than normal.
