A report on the fight against sectarian aberrations published four months ago warned of an increase of almost 50% in the number of reports between 2015 and 2021.

Ihe Secretary of State for Citizenship, Sonia Backès, called on Thursday for a “change of scale” in the fight against sectarian aberrations by opening meetings which aim to establish a “multi-year roadmap”.
This meeting, which is held at the Ministry of the Interior until Friday, takes place four months after the publication of the last report of the Interministerial Mission for Vigilance and the Fight against Sectarian Abuses (Miviludes), an organization attached to the ministry. The latter alerted, among other things, to an increase of nearly 50% in reports received between 2015 and 2021.
“Miviludes carries a clear message: the sectarian phenomenon has been constantly increasing in our country for many years”, with “more than 4,000 reports” received in 2021, declared Sonia Backès by opening these meetings.

“It is therefore important to take the measure of this alert”, she continued: “To do this, the State must, with all the stakeholders, readapt its organization and its tools to better respond to this societal challenge. . We must now scale up. »
The Minister notably considered that it would be difficult to “do without strengthening our legislative arsenal”, citing as “urgent” the fact of “strengthening the possibilities of prosecuting perpetrators”, “improving the compensation due to the victims”, or even to “shorten the timeframes for examining the proceedings”. Another objective, according to Sonia Backès “put all our energy on prevention, awareness, information on risks”. And for her, “it is on social networks that the decisive battle is fought”.
While the Miviludes report focused on health-related excesses among those considered to be the most worrying, the Minister for Health Professions, Agnès Firmin Le Bodo, indicated that she was going to launch “in the coming weeks” a “support committee for the supervision of non-conventional care practices” (PSNC), such as osteopathy, chiropractic, hypnosis, acupuncture.
Composed of experts and associations, it will have to “draw up a map of the PSNCs which will have to lead to a classification, so that they cease, for example, to coexist […] indiscriminately sectarian aberrations and the practices resorted to by health professionals in support of the exercise” of their profession, she said.
The participants in the meeting, which bring together the Ministry of the Interior, Miviludes, state services, associations, personalities, parliamentarians, will work according to “seven priority areas”. Among them: “to develop the law and judicial responses”, “consolidate the partnership between the State and associations on the territory”, “better support the victims”, or even “fight against sectarian aberrations on the Internet”. It will be, according to Sonia Backès, to achieve “the definition of a multi-year roadmap”.
