Samsung would have housed an RTX 4050 in its future Galaxy Book Pro. Expected at CES and also equipped with an Intel Core i7-13700H, this new laptop gives us a first idea of the performance of the new entry-level mobile chip from NVIDIA.

NVIDIA will hold a pre-CES event on January 3 which should allow it to unveil its RTX 4000 mobiles, dedicated to laptops. In the meantime, we have to settle for a few leaks to get a first idea of what these new chips will allow. Among this first information, a benchmark report obviously emanating from one of Samsung’s future Galaxy Book Pros. It tells us about the power developed by the future GeForce RTX 4050, replacing the current RTX 3050 on NVIDIA’s entry level.

A leaked Galaxy Book Pro 2023

Coupled with the future Intel Core i7-13700H (6 high-performance cores and 8 high-efficiency cores, frequencies located at 5 GHz in boost and 45 W TGP), this RTX 4050 has therefore been flashed on the PugetBench utility, all on board of a certain SAMSUNG_NP960XFH. An identifier that refers us to an upcoming Galaxy Book Pro model. According to the information revealed by this report, the device should also house 16 GB of RAM in DDR5 at 6400 MHz, and will, of course, run on Windows 11.

The RTX 4050 should take over part of the specifications of the RTX 3050. There would again be 4 GB of video memory in GDDR6 and a 128-bit bus. According to WCCFTech, some variants could however go up to 8 GB. The mystery hangs over the rest of the technical characteristics of the card, but it seems that it will exploit a restricted version of the NVIDIA AD107 GPU. A chip that should be found on the future RTX 4060 and 4060 Ti.

The RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti beaten?

On the performance side, the chip displays on PugetBench a graphics score of 57.4. For comparison, the GPU scores of the RTX 3050 and 3050 Ti on the same tool were located at 43.4 and 48.9 respectively. Faced with a laptop PC combining a current Core i7-12700H and an RTX 3050 Ti, we would therefore be on a 17% increase in GPU performance and 11% in overall performance.

The gain compared to an equivalent machine, but equipped with a “classic” RTX 3050, would this time be around 32% in favor of the RTX 4050, notes WCCFTech. However, all this must be tempered by remembering that, on a laptop, GPU performance is very dependent on the TGP budget allocated by the manufacturers. So let’s avoid drawing plans on the comet in the immediate future, these estimates may vary very significantly from one model to another.
