Sega opens new studios in Sapporo!

After clearly announcing its willingness to invest in new projects in 2022, Sega is inaugurating its new studio based in Sapporo, on the island of Hokkaido – in northern Japan and far from the capital Tokyo, where his other studio is located. Through this, Sega now covers the entire country. This Japanese brand wishes to remain faithful to its origins and starts new adventures in the land of the rising sun.

Sega had expressed in 2021 wanting to release a “great game” in the next five years and wanting to invest heavily in new projects, a budget of 1 billion euros had then been mentioned by the mark. We can therefore welcome this new studio as a first step in the realization of these many ambitions.

Head of the new Sapporo studio has been appointed Takaya Segawa, former chief producer of Phantasy Star Online 2 who joined Sega in 1992 as a designer. A director who already knows the company and its games well, especially since the Sapporo Studio could well focus in part on the creation of new environments and characters for Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis. Indeed, several job offers related to the game have been published by the studio. The main missions of the latter are still rather vague, but we can identify a few such as development, design, import / export of games and software …

Takaya Segawa spoke about the new Sega branch: “We will continue to rise to the challenge of creating even more innovative content and offering the world new and exciting experiences. We will use the know-how that Sega has accumulated over its long history to participate in the development of entertainment that we will present to the world from the attractive city of Sapporo. Sega Sapporo Studio will strive to provide a touching experience for customers, and to create a studio that values its people. “

While Sapporo will surely be the bearer of new and interesting projects for Sega and its community, it remains to be seen what this year has in store for us!

After receiving many negative reviews following the announcement of the sale of NFTs, Sega takes a step back and expresses that it can still change its mind.
