Sega revives its old glories in the Power Surge collection

As long as you discovered video games in the 1990s, the names of Shinobi, Golden Ax, Streets of Rage (Bare Knuckles for purists), Jet Set Radio And Crazy Taxi are bound to be part of your memories. These titles released on arcade machines, Megadrive and Dreamcast are part of the long cohort of Sega games which have left their mark on video game history. The publisher therefore intends to ride the nostalgic wave and bring these titles up to date, with more or less success if we judge the trailer for this branded range Power Surgefilled with references.

Shinobi seemed to us to be the most promising title: Joe Musashi retains its 2D aspect with an artistic direction that leans towards the mythical Okami and gameplay that is reminiscent of Mark of the Ninja.

On the other hand, the other two 2D titles which are Golden Ax And Streets of Rage undergo a 3D facelift. A surprising choice when you know the quality of Streets of Rage 4 which was certainly not developed by Sega, but by Dotemu, Guard Crush and Lizardcube.

Necessarily, Jet Set Radio And Crazy Taxi remain in 3D. The sprites, decorations and animations, however, appear more polished and Crazy Taxi seems a bit less crazy than its glorious ancestor. However, it is very difficult to gauge the qualities and defects of the different games, as the extracts are so short.

For the moment, no release date has been communicated and it is not known whether these games will be sold separately or as part of a compilation. However, for those who have more affinity with titles like Altered Beast, After Burner, OutRun, Thunder Force Or PowerstoneSega does not close the door since the trailer evokes a mysterious “and more” in the list of titles concerned by the range Power Surge.
