Sega Sammy announces better than expected results and forecasts a busy catalog

Weighed down by COVID-19, which has seriously affected pachinko/pachislot and tourist activities, not to mention the cruel sale of its historic arcades, Sega Sammy is regaining color. To begin with, pachinko/pachislot is back in the green (70 million euros in operating profit) while tourism has reduced its losses by almost half (18.6 million euros). But above all, the group owes this very good balance sheet to the excellent form of video games, which posted 253 million euros in operating profit, a nice increase compared to the 208 million euros recorded a year earlier.

Between April 2021 and March 2022, Sega notably released Humankind, Lost Judgment, Sonic Colors Ultimate, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, Shin Megami Tensei V, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Football Manager 2022 and Total War: Warhammer III, a solid catalog which allowed it to distribute 27.2 million games on consoles and PC.

But Sega is thinking bigger this year and plans to distribute 34.2 million games thanks to a higher number of titles, knowing that this increase will be largely driven by the West. Not counting the Switch port of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim which has already been released, Sega plans to launch 15 games in the fiscal year, including Sonic Origins, Sonic Frontiers, Soul Hackers 2 and Two Point Campus, to name a few announced titles. . Logical consequence, a further increase in the profit of the video game activity is expected (more than 290 million euros).

In the F2P department, Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis and Fist of the North Star: Legends ReVIVE remain the hot spots of the moment, in that order. F2P accounts for a significant portion of video game revenue (415 million euros) largely thanks to Japan. But the traditional game is not left out and generated 490 million euros in the same year.
