SEGA wants more remakes and reboots, especially with Sonic

While producing a video game is more and more expensive, creating a new license or simply a new opus of an already known franchise is a small leap into the void for publishers and developers. And to reassure themselves, they like to offer safe bets, such as remakes or remasters.

Square-Enix recently announced that it was “considering” remastering old games and its compatriot SEGA seems to want to do the same. Yukio Sugino, President and COO from the Japanese studio, spoke with Famitsu (via DualShockers) where he first returned to the case of Samba De Amigo: Party Centralwhich he considers as a new opus and not really as a reboot from the original opus, in the same style as Sonic Superstarsbut he would like some sort of reboot with the blue hedgehog.

Yukio Sugino wants that SEGA make both new games with new licenses and reboots and remakesstudying each deductible on a case-by-case basis, but Sonic the Hedgehog is obviously the flagship license of the Japanese studio. SEGA is already planning to make reboots and remakes of sonic along with the new gamesomething to delight the fans.

As a reminder, Sonic Superstars does not yet have a specific release date, it will arrive in 2023 and you can pre-order it at €59.99 on Amazon.
