Selection of the best menstrual swimwear

"I can't, I have my period". This expression so often repeated by women no longer needs to be: here is the fashion trend not to miss with these 4 brands of menstrual swimwear. Bathing every day of the year is possible!

If menstrual pants are now the ecological and practical reference for hygienic protections, there are still questions, especially in summer and among regular swimmers addicted to the pool.
We often hear that the flow of blood flow stops once in the water, but that's not true!

Water pressure slows the flow, but don't stop it. Outside of heavy flow days, the amount of blood remains small when the body is submerged, and disperses almost instantly in water.
The normal flow starts to flow as soon as swimming is finished: without protection, it is not easy to let the droplets of blood pearl along the legs …

What solutions are available to us? The eternal disposable tampon, the menstrual cup … or the rules swimsuit! No more "I can't have my period", no more disposable tampons and cups which are not always comfortable.

Make way for rules swimwear!

What is the rules swimsuit?

Like menstrual pants, the period swimsuit absorbs blood flow and serves as a durable, comfortable and very practical hygienic protection.

If you missed our full records on menstrual panties:

The different absorbent layers soak up the blood flow, while remaining discreet and fine. The layers are sewn on top of each other: no leaks, no smell, and no feeling of discomfort.

Do you want to combine security, protection, ecology and comfort? Here are 4 brands of swimwear rules that we recommend!

All our practical advice

For swimming in the summer with back and forth between the towel and the dip in the water: you will have to wear the rule jersey each time you are in the water.

> In case of light flow, no need to change or add protection the rest of the time.
> In case of abundant flow, you will have to complete the swimsuit with a menstrual cup or put on menstrual pants, which will go unnoticed for a swimming brief!

For time-limited swimming sessions: the rules swimsuit is enough, except in case of very large flow.

Menstrual swimsuits have an absorbent core as well as a waterproof membrane to retain menstrual flow. Like menstrual pants, the absorption capacity depends on the flow of each woman and the period of the cycle.

In case of heavy periods (also called hypermenorrhea): the menstrual swimsuit is worn 2 to 3 hours maximum. It is possible to supplement it with a menstrual cup.
In case of light flow / small urine leaks : no need to worry, there is no risk of task.

Why should you avoid wearing a tampon when you bathe?

This is surely the solution that the majority of women think of if they want to go swimming or enjoy the pool. But beware, remember that wearing a disposable tampon is not trivial, especially when you bathe:
Once inserted into the vagina, the tampon material absorbs the blood flow, but also the water in which we bathe. The vaginal opening is far from being airtight, and the tampon also soaks up water, containing chemicals (chlorine, etc.) or microbes (sea, pollution, etc.)

The disposable tampon has been the star of "practical and versatile" hygienic protections since its creation. It is now strongly criticized for several reasons:

1 – Disposable pads are hygienic protections very polluting for the environment, which take more than 800 years to degrade, just like disposable towels.

2 – The studies surveyed by ANSES on disposable tampons (organic and non-organic), revealed the presence of many harmful substances: pesticides, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, phthalates, dioxins and furans. All of these products have demonstrated carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic effects and are considered to be endocrine disruptors.

3 – Wearing a tampon in the vagina for several hours can absorb the natural vaginal flora and irritate the internal walls. Exceptionally, these irritations can lead to toxic shock syndrome

Like menstrual pants, the period swimsuit is machine washable up to 30 ° C:
> After use, rinse the swimsuit with cold water, and if necessary leave it to soak for a few minutes, like a classic swimsuit.

> The use of fabric softeners and tumble dryers is prohibited! The ideal: air drying and gentle washing only.
