Selena Gomez: Elegant appearance in Cannes

Saturday evening in Cannes was marked by one fashion moment after another. Actress Selena Gomez, 31, who appeared on the red carpet at the premiere of her new film drama “Emilia Pérez”, provided a fashion highlight. The US star made a breathtaking appearance in a floor-length, black and white off-shoulder dress by Yves Saint Laurent.

A sparkling silver necklace and matching hanging earrings provided additional glamor. Gomez gathered her brunette hair into a voluminous ponytail and let her layered curtain bangs fall slightly over her face. Her nails were given a classic red coat. The actress used natural nude colors for her make-up.

Selena Gomez’s crew received the longest applause

Gomez and her co-stars, including Zoe Saldaña, 45, Karla Sofía Gascón, 52, and Édgar Ramírez, 47, received what was probably the longest applause ever from the audience in Cannes on Saturday evening, as “Variety” writes. There was said to have been a standing ovation for a whopping nine minutes, which moved Gomez to tears.

The film by French director Jacques Audiard, 72, is about the brilliant but poorly paid lawyer Rita (Saldaña), who works for a law firm but is involved in criminal activities. Then she unexpectedly receives a new assignment: she is supposed to help the feared Mexican drug lord Juan “Manitas” Del Monte (Gascón) secretly have a gender reassignment operation in order to become a woman. Gomez plays his clueless wife.

The film drama premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. “Emilia Pérez” can be seen in cinemas from August 29, 2024. For director Jacques Audiard, it is the sixth time he has taken part in the competition for the Palme d’Or in Cannes.
