According to the Ukrainian army, Russia is responsible for the explosions. Accordingly, Russia is said to have fired a total of 75 rockets at Ukraine. 41 of these missiles were intercepted by the Ukrainian air defenses, General Valeriy Salushnyy said on Telegram.
Kyiv was shaken by several violent explosions in the morning rush hour. According to the police, at least five people were killed and twelve others injured in the attacks. According to the authorities, among other things, a museum, a university and a park were hit. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, important infrastructure in the city was also attacked.
There have been no Russian airstrikes in the Ukrainian capital since the end of June. Even during the height of the struggle for Kyiv in March, attacks on the center of the capital were rare exceptions.
On Sunday evening, the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, threatened Ukraine with retaliation for the explosion on the Crimean bridge, which is strategic for Russia, on Saturday. On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke of a “terrorist attack” on the bridge and – like the media in Kyiv – blamed the Ukrainian secret service SBU. However, the SBU had not confirmed an involvement.
