A first step towards the end of anarchy? Appearing in recent years on all the sidewalks of the capital, self-service scooters are making headlines. Some find them practical and not subject to the vagaries of breakdowns and strikes, while others consider them dangerous and cumbersome. In order to ease tensions, the three operators of these new means of transport have come to an agreement and are announcing new draconian measures.
First, in fact, these scooters will simply be prohibited for minors in Paris. To ensure this, users will have to provide identification on the application used (Lime, Dott, Tier) from next week. A similar measure already exists in another large French city, Lyon. The second measure also puts the focus on the user since the scooters will be registered. “We put them [les plaques d’immatriculation] with the aim of making our users more responsible”, thus indicated the boss of Tier, quoted by our colleagues from BFM. A more dissuasive measure than anything else, since in fact, the verbalization of the users of these vehicles is already possible.
Obviously, during the joint press conference of the three operators, the problem of anarchy on the sidewalks was discussed. But the companies in question reject such an observation, explaining that the vast majority of vehicles are correctly parked. They also point the finger at the town hall of Paris, which according to them would turn a deaf ear to their requests for an increase in parking spaces.
A few weeks ago, the town hall of Paris had raised its tone and gave operators a month to adopt measures intended to appease the relationship of Parisians with these street acrobats. Otherwise, the three companies risked being purely and simply excluded from the capital. The ultimatum therefore seems to have been respected.
