Self-sufficient caravan Coast Model 1: comfortably wait for the end of the world

MOBILITY

The Coast Model 1 caravan offers a high level of self-sufficiency and does not use gas or diesel. Instead, you sleep on powerful batteries.

If the tow vehicle is already electric, isn’t it a bit anachronistic to fire the caravan heater with gas or cook with diesel fuel? The US company Coast (formerly Aero Build) has specialized in purely electric caravans and started series production with the Model 1.

The company, which has so far specialized in the construction of special trailers such as those for sale, recently outsourced the Coast brand, and the Model 1 can be ordered now. And the caravan is a real camping highlight.

The heart of the structure is a powerful battery bank with a total capacity of 810 Ah, which is attached to the vehicle floor so that it is easy to center of gravity. Two 3,000 watt inverters deliver the power to numerous sockets distributed throughout the living area. The idea behind the Model 1 (the Tesla reference is certainly not chosen by chance) is to be self-sufficient in distant places for a long time. Consequently, the batteries are primarily charged with the help of solar cells.

These are located on the roof and deliver an output of 1,400 watts. According to the manufacturer, the power is sufficient to be able to operate all features of the caravan permanently electrically. These include a ceramic or induction hob, the 278-liter refrigerator or the entertainment system, consisting of a 32-inch television, subwoofer and soundbar from Sony. An oven and a microwave are also installed – so you can relax and look forward to the end of the world.

You can conveniently control all of the technology and fill levels in the approximately six-meter-long caravan via a smart home system using the four touchscreens installed in the living area. Up to four people can sleep in the caravan, use the dry separating toilet or even take a shower.

Around 230 liters of fresh water and equally large waste water tanks ensure that you can stay away from civilization for a long time.
