Selfcare: What you can do for yourself when you don't have time

Do you have too little time for yourself? Welcome to the club! Nine ideas how you can still do something good for yourself.

Do you remember when we thought that technical progress and digitization could lead to more free time? Because z. B. Would automation and smart technologies reduce work? Well, puff cake. Instead of more free time, the innovations of the last decades have in most cases given us a higher workload. And the freedom to "quickly do something" for the job after work and on the weekend. Many thanks too!

It feels like we're running out of time while trying to keep up. Moments that belong exclusively to us are rare and usually short. Of course, it would be fundamentally desirable to change something about this – to find a better work-life balance or ways to slow down. We should probably all work on that in the long term. But at the same time, we can do something good for ourselves in our hectic everyday life that hardly takes any time, just a decision. That helps at least for the feeling – and maybe gives us the taste to tackle the project work-life balance with full commitment …

9 things you can do for yourself even if you don't have time

1. Look at the sky

Regardless of whether it is gray, blue, black with or without the moon and stars – fascinating things are constantly happening in the sky and a quick glance up is often enough to feel grounded and in good hands.

2. Be grateful

Be grateful in the middle of a stressful everyday life? Admittedly, it sounds strange at first, but it can be really good to keep something in front of your eyes for which you are grateful in a moment of hectic or annoyance. Trying is about criticizing.

3. Take a deep breath

Breathe in and out consciously, perhaps closing your eyes – afterwards the world can look completely different than before.

4. Stretch yourself

Straighten your back, hold your head up, stretch your arms out, do a few stretching exercises if necessary – movement and doing something for the body don't always have to do with self-optimization and training …

5. Hear your favorite song

It only takes you three minutes and you can even do something else on the side.

6. Sing

Sometimes it just has to go …

7. Look out the window

Especially if your everyday life consists of staring at some monitors: For a change, take a look out the window and watch what is going on outside. You can also ventilate the room and fill up with fresh air.

8. Drink a ginger tea

Peel and cut ginger, pour hot water over it – that's how quickly you have a delicious feel-good drink that warms you inside. Ginger tea is also said to have a stimulating effect when sweetened.

9. Feel what you feel

Just pause for a minute and listen to yourself: What is your feeling at this moment? How is your mood? Especially when we are mentally very challenged, we tend to neglect our feelings. In the long run, however, this can take revenge – because when we become numb and feel empty inside, our creativity, determination and motivation also wane. And our sanity alone is guaranteed not to make up for this loss.
