The Biden administration is expected to announce the release of new subsidies soon. They will be intended to support the development of the semiconductor industry in the United States.

Semiconductors have become as important an element as oil in the rivalry of the big players in geopolitics. In this area, the United States is trying everything it can to slow down its Chinese geostrategic rival, while seeking to control its supply by building large chip factories on its territory. It is within this framework that new subsidies will be released by Washington.

Billions of dollars on the program

The White House should in the coming weeks announce the creation of new subsidies intended for the semiconductor sector, according to information from the Wall Street Journal. The goal of the US executive is to accelerate production in America of the most powerful semiconductors.

Still according to the same source, which relies on the comments of industrial leaders in the sector, the official announcements should take place before Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech, scheduled for March 7.

Intel and TSMC among the lucky recipients?

The world’s largest semiconductor manufacturers could be among the recipients of these subsidies. It must be said that several large-scale projects have been started in recent years across the Atlantic.

Intel has thus launched the construction of factories in several states of the USA, projects which represent a total of 43.5 billion dollars, while TSMC has started the construction of two units in Phoenix (Arizona), this time with 40 billion dollars. investment at stake. Both groups could benefit from this government funding, according to the Wall Street Journal, as could Samsung Electronics.

As a reminder, United States Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo indicated last December that around a dozen financing projects would be publicly announced during the year 2024.
