For the first time in around four years, the SemperOpernball took place on Friday evening (February 23rd) in the opera and on the Dresden Theaterplatz. The first opera ball after the Corona-related break was moderated by actor Tom Wlaschiha (50), who became internationally known through “Game of Thrones,” and his colleague Stephanie Stumph (39).

For the comeback of the traditional event, the latter opted for a sweeping pink tulle ball gown with a hoop skirt, which was decorated with flowers and feathers and conjured up the perfect Cinderella look. The actress wore her hair open, individual strands framed her face in a sleek style. A silver clutch and subtle silver jewelry completed the glamorous look.

Outfit change during the ball

On Instagram, Stumph appeared backstage during the presentation preparations and provided further views of her gown from Katrin Eulenstein Couture. She received numerous compliments on her look. “Wow,” writes presenter Jennifer Knäble (44), and colleague Frauke Ludowig (60) also thinks the outfit is “amazing.” Instagram stories and other pictures from the evening show that Stumph didn’t just present himself in a dress. In the opera she can also be seen in two colorful robes in red and yellow.

“The SemperOpernball is an integral part of the lifestyle of my hometown Dresden,” Stumph explained in a statement before the ball. “It is a great honor for me to be able to lead through this traditional event as a presenter alongside Tom Wlaschiha and to help shape the ball’s restart after a four-year break.”

Among others, the Mexican star tenor Rolando Villazón (52) and presenter and singer Giovanni Zarrella (45) and his band appeared on stage for the midnight concert. The prominent guests at the ball included Stephanie Stumph’s father Wolfgang Stumph (78), presenter Inka Bause (55) and singer Ross Antony (49).

In addition, the Choros Award was presented for the first time by a board of trustees headed by the Saxon state parliament president Matthias Rößler (69). A prize went posthumously to the opera singer and long-time moderator of the Semper Opera Ball, Gunther Emmerlich (1944-2023). Musician Michael Patrick Kelly (46) and soprano Nikola Hillebrand (31) were also among the award winners.
