DAKAR (Reuters) – Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye named opposition leader Ousmane Sonko as prime minister on Tuesday.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who won Senegal’s presidential election last month, was sworn in earlier in the day.

Speaking after the announcement of his appointment, Ousmane Sonko indicated that he would present the composition of his government to Bassirou Diomaye Faye, so that the latter approves it.

“There is no question of letting him (Bassirou Diomaye Faye) assume this heavy responsibility alone,” said Ousmane Sonko.
