Sennheiser has announced a “Special Edition” version of its CX Plus True Wireless, headphones with a slightly modified design to flood the market.
Definitely, Sennheiser seeks to decline its range of CX wireless headphones in all possible and imaginable ways. After the CX 400BT, the CX True Wireless and the CX Plus True Wireless, the German manufacturer unveiled this week a new version of its Bluetooth headphones, the Sennheiser CX Plus Special Edition True Wireless.
As their name suggests, behind this extended name hides in fact a variation of the version ” More “ CX True Wireless headphones. We will therefore find most of the characteristics of the first models with not only 7 mm diameter transducers and an in-ear format, but also active noise reduction. The headphones are also IPX4 certified for waterproofing. The headphones are also capable of reproducing sound frequencies from 5 to 21,000 Hz and are compatible with Bluetooth audio codecs AAC, SBC, aptX and aptX Adaptive thanks to the Bluetooth 5.2 connection.
Nothing changes either on the autonomy side, since Sennheiser announces up to 24 hours with the charging box.
Sennheiser finally justifies this “Special Edition” by slight modifications in terms of design. If the headphones remain plastic, the panel acting as control buttons is now covered with a brushed matte surface reminiscent of the colors of metal. A change that has a cost, however, since the Sennheiser CX Plus Special Edition True Wireless are offered at 179.99 euros at launch, or 40 euros more than the Sennheiser CX Plus True Wireless.
A pair of earphones with an essentially marketing purpose
It must be said that the market for wireless headphones is particularly attractive for all manufacturers of smartphones, audio or electronics in general. With exponential growth, all players are now looking not only to convince users, but also to offer different models of wireless headphones at all price points. This can be done with different ranges as Apple does, or with different designs.
While some manufacturers offer different colorways at one price, Sennheiser therefore seems to be looking to expand its range of wireless headphones by essentially offering a slightly different look at a higher price. A way for the manufacturer to have headphones for less than 150 euros, but also for less than 200 euros.
