Seoul: Rumors in North Korea
Will Kim Jong Un’s daughter be his successor?

In 2022, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will introduce his daughter Ju Ae to the public for the first time. Since then, there has been speculation as to whether the girl will eventually succeed her father. According to South Korea, evidence of this is increasing.

According to information from Seoul, the daughter of ruler Kim Jong Un has been discussed as a possible successor in North Korea. A spokesman for South Korea’s Unification Ministry in Seoul noted that North Korean state media has referred to Kim Jong Un’s daughter Ju Ae as “Hyangdo,” a title for “great leader.”

According to observers, it was the first time that Ju Ae was officially introduced as the ruler’s daughter. The young woman had often accompanied her father at public appearances in the past, for the first time in 2022 when state media showed her at his side during the launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

Since then, she has been celebrated in North Korea’s official media as the “Morning Star of Korea” and “beloved child.” The Unification Ministry spokesman in Seoul said his government does not rule out Ju Ae one day succeeding her father as North Korea’s leader. Kim Jong Un has been in power in North Korea since 2011; at that time he took over the leadership of the country after his father’s death.

He relies on constant rearmament and the expansion of the nuclear capacities of his military. There have already been four nuclear weapons tests during his term in office, the most recent in 2017.
