They are colourful, round and sparkle like crazy: sequins! If you wear them on your clothes, it’s clear that New Year’s Eve is just around the corner and someone is waiting for the big party with a sparkling champagne bottle and streamers. The next morning the fumble ends up in the furthest corner of the wardrobe. So what are you supposed to do with your sequin ensemble in a café or even in the office? Right, wear it — right. The secret is: to skilfully integrate the party wardrobe into everyday looks. Promise, it works – without appearing overdressed.

1. Sequined but elegant and preppy

The preppy look is a good solution for everyone who likes it glamorous in everyday life. And one thing is clear, this styling rule always works: The party pieces are simply worn with romantic sweaters, classic shirts or skirts. The result is a playful look that is even suitable for business.

Another trick makes styling easier: if you let it rip with glittering trousers or a skirt, you keep it calmer on the upper body with a cable-knit, turtleneck or fine-knit sweater. A plain white blouse with a babydoll or Kent collar makes the sweet-casual look perfect. If the counterpart to the sequin top is trousers or a skirt, choose soft fabrics made of cotton, linen or cashmere. Please refrain from coarser textures such as leather.

2. Exciting look in sequin pattern mix

Go for leopard prints, gingham checks or dark polka dots: sequins work great with patterns. However, the pattern mix also harbors dangers. If the sequined piece is too colorful, in combination with patterned parts it quickly screams: carnival!

That’s why the following applies to the selected sequin styles: A monochrome model is already an eye-catcher, so it’s better to do without colorfully mixed sequins. If the glitter and pattern part come from the same color family, the outfit looks even more extravagant.
