President Aleksandar Vucic announced in Belgrade on Wednesday that anyone who has had a vaccination or is vaccinated by May 31st will receive a one-time grant of 3000 dinars (25 euros). Serbs currently earn an average of 520 euros a month.
Discriminatory restrictions for people who do not want to be vaccinated are out of the question, Vucic told the government-affiliated private television broadcaster Pink. He considers it “irresponsible and selfish” if someone does not want to be vaccinated. “That’s why we thought about how we can reward people who show responsibility.”
In Serbia, around 30 percent of people have currently received at least one corona vaccination. The country has also been using vaccines from Russia and China that are not approved in the EU since December. In the beginning, Belgrade achieved remarkable results with it. In the past two weeks, the proportion of people who have received a corona vaccination has only increased by two percentage points.
