Serge Klarsfeld, Line Renaud, Jean-Pierre Raffarin… Discover the July 14 promotion of the Legion of Honor


As every year during the National Day, many personalities from various fields are distinguished.

Serge Klarsfeld, co-founder of the association of “Sons and Daughters of Jewish Deportees from France“, and Line Renaud, co-founder of Sidaction, are part of the promotion of July 14 of the Legion of Honor published Thursday in the Official Journal.

Serge Klarsfeld is elevated to the highest distinction, that of Grand Cross. Lawyer and historian, he is also honorary ambassador of Unesco for the teaching of the history of the Holocaust. His wife, Beate Klarsfeld, of all his fights, including the hunt for former Nazis, is promoted to Grand Officer. Line Renaud also attains the rank of Grand Cross, as does Jean-Pierre Raffarin, former Prime Minister.

Former ministers, athletes…

In addition to the three grand crosses, this promotion of July 14 is divided between 270 knights, 39 officers, 14 commanders and three grand officers (329 people in total). The immunologist Alain Fischer, president of the vaccine strategy orientation council, is made a grand officer, while the title of commander goes to Véronique Cayla, president of the Académie des César.

Journalist Claire Chazal becomes an officer, as does Catherine Pgard, president of the Palace of Versailles. The actress Marlène Jobert and the singer Rhoda Scott are knighted. The title of commander goes to Jean Castex, ex-Prime Minister, as well as Roselyne Bachelot and Jean-Pierre Chevènement, former ministers. Others like Jean-Michel Blanquer, Françoise Parly and Jean-Yves Le Drian are on their side made officers.

In sports, are named knight Luis Fernandez, ex-international footballer, Fabien Galthié, coach of the XV of France, or Annick Hayraud, manager of the French women’s rugby union team. Finally, motorcycle driver Fabio Quartararo, world speed champion, and car driver Sébastien Ogier, world rally champion, become knights on an exceptional basis.
