Serious injuries – Drunk hunter hit colleague (24) with a shot

A Tyrolean (24) was seriously injured by a shot from a fellow hunter on Sunday in St. Johann im Saggautal in southern Styria. The shooter hadn’t seen him, but he wasn’t sober either.

23 people took part in the hunt in the Untergreith district. During the last shoot, around 12.15 p.m., a woodcock was flushed out by a hunting dog. It flew out of a forest towards a rising meadow. According to the police, a 30-year-old guest hunter targeted the animal and fired a shot from his shotgun. He met the bird – but also a 24-year-old fellow hunter, also from Tyrol. The victim was only 40 meters away, but was barely visible due to the edge of the terrain. Not in mortal danger. The 24-year-old was seriously injured in the face and chest area and collapsed to the ground. The man was taken to the LKH Graz by rescue helicopter, but according to doctors his life is not in danger. The hunt was of course immediately stopped. An on-site breathalyzer test conducted on the shooter was positive.
