Serious injuries – young person in Vienna run over by tram


In a tragic accident, a teenager was critically injured in Vienna-Rudolfsheim on Tuesday afternoon. The victim crossed the tracks of tram line 52 so suddenly that the vehicle could not stop despite emergency braking – the boy got under the tram. He was operated on in the hospital.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 p.m. in the area of ​​the Mariahilfer Straße / Geibelgasse station. According to Wiener Linien, the youngster was likely to have walked next to the tram for a while before trying to cross the tracks. The vehicle rolled over the victim.

Bim raised with lifting cushions
The Viennese professional fire brigade raised the tram with lifting bags and freed the victim from under the front part of the set. Together with the Viennese professional rescue service, the emergency services put in place first aid measures, then the young person was handed over to the rescue service.

The victim was brought to the hospital with life-threatening injuries in a rescue helicopter that landed on a construction site not far from the scene of the accident.
