seriously ill, couple marry in hospital

Elizabeth and Simon were to be married in June. At the beginning of January, they fell ill with Covid-19, and decided to say "yes" to each other in the hospital.

Elizabeth Kerr and Simon O'Brien had planned to say "yes" to each other in June 2021. Only their plans were turned upside down when they both fell seriously ill in early January from the coronavirus, Reuters reports. The British couple then decided to get married in the hospital, thanks to the help of the nursing staff.

Sick of Covid-19, this 31-year-old nurse and this 33-year-old paramedic were rushed to hospital in the same ambulance because their respective oxygen levels had fallen dangerously. If they were hospitalized at the same time and for the same reason, they were placed in two different wards. "The nurses came to me in the ward and told me that Simon was going to be transferred to intensive care, and that they could not delay him"Elizabeth tells Reuters. This same caregiver tells her that this could be her last chance to marry her fiancé. "These are words that I never want to hear again"she says.

It was then that a crazy idea, and above all incredibly touching, came to mind: no question of waiting six months to get married, they would say "yes" to each other in the hospital! The couple were able to count on the nursing staff, who were quick to organize everything so that the wedding could take place before Simon's transfer to intensive care.

After this rushed marriage, which took place on January 12, 2021, Elizabeth and Simon found themselves again in the same Covid patient care unit. According to Reuters, the health of the newlyweds has improved. Although they are still on oxygen, they were able to kiss for the first time since D-Day. According to the young woman, this marriage was more than important for them, it was downright saving. "If we hadn't been there for each other and if we hadn't been given this opportunity to get married, I think neither of us would be here today.", she confides.
