(CercleFinance.com) – SES announced Monday that its joint connectivity offer set up with Starlink, the satellite communications system of Elon Musk’s aerospace company SpaceX, had been selected by the cruise line Virgin Voyages.
The satellite operator highlights that Virgin thus becomes the first cruise line to deploy ‘SES Cruise mPowered+ Starlink Pro service’ technology, which combines medium Earth orbit (MEO) and low Earth orbit (LEO) technologies.
With a speed of 1.5 Gbps for each ship, the solution implemented by SES and Starlink must offer Virgin Voyages ‘sailors’ (passengers) unlimited access to Wi-Fi.
Launched in 2021, Virgin Voyages defines itself as a brand of ‘super yachts’ reserved for adults, where they can have access to numerous restaurants, group fitness classes and non-alcoholic drinks. It now serves more than 100 ports worldwide.
