Google Assistant: Sign in to the app
The first steps only take a few minutes, then your Google speaker is ready to use: After you click on Open you are greeted by this screen. Pick the point Start now in the lower right corner. A Google account is required to set up. First enter the email address, then select Continue. Now enter your password and click again Continue.
Add Google speakers
Then press Set up the device. To set up a new loudspeaker, select the item Set up new devices. Now select the name of the place where the loudspeaker will be placed, for example Home. Alternatively, you can create a new location and name it, for example, “Office”. If you have already connected your Google speaker to the power supply, you should now automatically see this display. Select the point at the bottom right Continue. The connection to the device is established. This can sometimes take a minute.
Get the Google Assistant ready to go
So that the app and device can communicate with each other, you will now see this display and hear a tone from the loudspeaker. When you hear the sound, choose Yes. Choose whether you want to send crash reports to Google. If not, press in the lower left corner No thank you. This has no influence on the use of the device. Now determine in which room your loudspeaker is located. Many are suggested, but you can also create your own room names. Now select the WLAN that you want to connect your Google speaker to. Attention: Your smartphone or tablet, with which you started the setup, must be in the same WLAN for the setup to work. This also applies to separate WLAN names for different frequency bands or guest networks that run via the same router. The WLAN names must match 1: 1. To be on the safe side, delete WLAN access data from your smartphone if there are several WLANs nearby that you have already connected to. Press Continue. Now enter the WiFi password and choose Connect. Establishing the connection can take a few minutes. If everything went well, you will see a corresponding message on the screen. After a few seconds, another screen will open automatically – choose now Continue.
Google Assistant is learning
Google can recognize you based on your voice, which is particularly helpful if multiple users with multiple Google accounts want to use the loudspeaker. You can use the voice match function, but you do not have to. If you set up Voice Match, Google only reads your personal information, such as calendar entries, to you. Now enter the device location. This is necessary so that Google can, for example, provide traffic information, for example before you go to work. Then press Continue.
The best thing about the smart speaker is its ability to learn. This is how you can give Google Home new capabilities via the app. But even at the factory, the little wise guy can recite the latest news or take a look at the weather forecast. The sources for this can be selected as desired. By default, the new German version starts with news from Deutschlandfunk. If you prefer to start the day with fresh information about technology or sports, this fits into the Assistant settings Under the menu item Messages on.
