Torn muscle fiber: Adeyemi will be missing from BVB for longer than expected

Bad news for Borussia Dortmund and Karim Adeyemi: The attacker is not part of the DFB team’s squad for the upcoming international matches – and now he will probably be out for several weeks. There is praise from the national coach for this.
Karim Adeyemi will apparently be absent from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund for several weeks. As “Bild” reports, the 22-year-old tore a muscle fiber in his thigh during the 7-1 win in the Champions League against Celtic Glasgow. Adeyemi had excelled on Tuesday evening with three goals in the first half, but had to be substituted shortly after the break due to injury. According to the report, the attacker will be out for three to four weeks.
Shortly after the game against Celtic, Adeyemi suspected that it wasn’t that bad. “It didn’t feel as bad as usual. Hopefully I’ll be back soon,” said the U21 international. He had already torn two muscle fibers in the 2022/2023 season and missed several games back then. Even before that, he had repeatedly struggled with muscle injuries in the professional field.
“I see him as a candidate in the future”
Meanwhile, Julian Nagelsmann has given Adeyemi a good chance of returning to the national football team soon. “He’s injured, but he’s in a very good flow. I see him as a candidate for us in the future,” said the national coach in a DFB interview about the nomination of his 23-man squad for the Nations League games on June 11th October in Zenica against Bosnia-Herzegovina and three days later in Munich against the Netherlands.
Like Adeyemi recently, his Dortmund teammate Maximilian Beier will have to make do with a place in the U21 for the time being. Because the attacker, who moved from TSG Hoffenheim to BVB in the summer, has not yet progressed beyond the reserve role at his new club, Nagelsmann decided against nominating the 21-year-old again.
“Maxi simply hasn’t got the flow and minutes in Dortmund yet. We decided that it doesn’t make much sense for him to only play 20 minutes for us,” explained the coach. “Ideally we would like to give him two 90 minutes and two 70 or 80 minutes in the U21’s important qualifying games. In this way he can help the U21 and himself to simply regain their rhythm,” said Nagelsmann.
