Initially planned for the end of 2024, the Switch 2 would instead be released in early 2025. Nintendo would not be ready to launch its big first-party games this year.

Expected for years, the Nintendo Switch 2 was to be released during the second half of 2024, according to the latest information reaching us. We would ultimately have to be a little more patient to see the next Big N console arrive.

Released early 2025

It was the Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe who seemed to be the first to reveal the information, during a podcast entitled OX do Control. Since then, renowned English-language publications like Eurogamer And VGC were able to confirm this trend, citing several corroborating sources.

The two media are now talking about a release of the Switch 2 for the first quarter of 2025. VGC announced that Nintendo would have warned third-party publishers that its next machine would not finally be available until the beginning of next year.

According to its sources, it is not a hardware or mass production problem with the hybrid console that is causing this setback, but a lack of strong first-party games ready for launch. Nintendo would need time to finalize the major productions supposed to accompany the device.

An announcement still imminent?

According to EurogamerNintendo will do everything to market the Switch 2, whose real name is not yet known, for the company’s next fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025.

A few days ago, insider NateTheHate announced that we could expect an official announcement of the Switch 2 as early as March 2024. It is entirely possible that despite the delay of the console, Nintendo still choose to present it in a few weeks. The publishers are also preparing to communicate on their first titles belonging to the next generation of hardware from the Japanese firm.

From what we know, the Switch 2 should not be a revolution in concept, but an evolution. In particular, it should be equipped with a better chip to boost its performance. The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to cost more than the Switch at launch.
