Several accidents – Badger brought motorcycle group from Hungary down

A badger crossing the road caused a motorcycle collision on Whit Monday on Gailtalstraße (B 111). The first two drivers of a group of five motorcycles from Hungary fell. But accidents also happened on the Nockalmstraße, on the Klippitztörl Straße and in Hermagor.

The group of five motorcyclists from Hungary was traveling from Nassfeld towards Lesachtal at around 10.30 a.m. when the animal suddenly appeared in a long right-hand bend and forced the first two motorcyclists to brake abruptly. Both bikers fell. The following handlebars also collided with each other, but were able to prevent a fall. Only the first motorcyclist, who was taken to the Lienz district hospital by the Kötschach-Mauthen rescue service, was injured to an undetermined degree. Heavy damage was caused to all motorcycles involved. Bikers fell 20 meters on the Nockalm road, a biker (52) from St. Veit lost control and fell 20 meters in steep terrain. His companions immediately provided first aid and set the rescue chain in motion. The man was rescued by the rescue team of the RK 1 helicopter with a rope and flown to the LKH Villach. A man from Klagenfurt (46) also crashed his motorcycle about 30 meters on the Klippitztörl road. The seriously injured man was flown to UKH Klagenfurt by the C 11 rescue helicopter. And a bump in the ground at a construction site was fatal to a motorcyclist (64) from Italy in Hermagor. The Italian fell and slid across the roadway into an oncoming car. He was taken to Villach Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
