What is ransomware or ransomware?

The Castelluccio hospital, in Corsica, is currently the victim of a ransomware attack, which is amputating the establishment of its radiotherapy and oncology activities.

Once again, hackers are attacking a hospital establishment. The Corsica Regional Health Agency announces that the Castelluccio hospital, located in Ajaccio, is currently facing a cyberattack. The latter takes the form of ransomware and was detected on the computer network of the hospital, now paralyzed, on Monday, March 28.

An attack that blocks critical services at the Castelluccio hospital center

The attack, which blocks all of the information systems of the Corsican establishment, led to the suspension of radiotherapy and oncology activities, two critical services within a hospital center. Information systems are a fundamental element for them, particularly for dosages and targeting.

The Castelluccio hospital is currently setting up an organization that allows it to ensure the continuity of urgent care for patients. These have all been individually warned, as is customary in the event of a computer attack of this type. The other activities of the establishment continue to operate fairly normally.

Very quickly, we learned that the ransomware hitting the Ajaccio hospital was to be credited to the pirate group called Vice Society. He is particularly known for having, last summer, paralyzed another hospital center located in the south of France, in Arles more particularly.

The attack had also had surprising consequences, since the hackers had finally made the data punctured disappear, even though the establishment had not paid a ransom.

Access to the Internet, the information system and workstations have been cut

Regarding the attack on the Castelluccio hospital, ARS Corsica specifies that ” from actions to limit the spread of the virus were immediately implemented by teams from CH Castelluccio and its partners “. This means that access to the Internet and to the information system has been cut and that workstations have been taken offline.

Very quickly, a crisis cell was opened, in conjunction with the ARS, in order to restore normal and secure operation of activities as quickly as possible.
