Several dead and injured after shooting in Paris

(dpa) Three people were killed and three injured, one seriously, in a shooting in Paris. As the public prosecutor’s office in Paris announced on Friday afternoon, they initiated investigations into intentional killing and serious violence. A 69-year-old man was arrested and is in police custody.

The broadcaster France Info reported, citing police circles, that the man was known for two attempted killings. The newspaper “Le Parisien” wrote that the Frenchman attacked a migrant camp with a saber last year and injured several people there. The man only got out of prison in mid-December and was under judicial supervision.

Media had previously reported that a man had fired multiple shots in the Rue d’Enghien area of ​​the tenth arrondissement. The fatal shots in Paris were fired in a Kurdish community center, among other places, the district mayor Alexandra Cordebard announced. The attacker also fired in a restaurant and a hairdressing salon opposite the center.

The man’s motive was initially unclear. The Paris police have not yet released any further information about the incident. The Paris police called on Twitter to avoid the area.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo thanked the security forces on Twitter for their quick action. A psychological support service is being set up at City Hall in the 10th arrondissement, Hidalgo wrote. France’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin is expected at the scene of the attack later in the afternoon. He wrote on Twitter that his thoughts are with the victims’ families.
