Several injured – Epileptic seizure led to serious accidents

An epileptic seizure led to traffic accidents on the A9 on Saturday afternoon, involving several people and injuries.

A 34-year-old German steered his car on the A9 in the direction of Linz around 12 noon. Shortly after the Gleinalm tunnel he suffered an epileptic seizure. As a result, he stepped on the gas and accelerated sharply. His passenger or wife tried in vain to release her husband’s foot from the gas. There were four minor children in the vehicle. Due to the acceleration, the vehicle drove into a preceding British-registered car. The driver, his wife and daughter were in this car. The force of the impact threw the German’s car several times against the guardrail on the left and right. Vehicle parts were also thrown into the oncoming lane, causing another vehicle to be damaged. The German’s car, which was driving uncontrolled, touched another German car. The driver, his wife and son were in it. After this collision, the German’s driverless vehicle crashed into the guardrail several times, breaking off various vehicle parts such as axles and tires. At this point, the 37-year-old wife was able to regain control of the car and steer it into the “Ortnerhof” parking lot. As a result, the dog of the German family escaped onto the A9, but was later caught. After the accident, the German who caused the accident was taken to the neurology department of Knittelfeld Hospital, the degree of injury is unknown. His son (7) was taken to the children’s outpatient clinic in Leoben with a minor degree of injury. The British family was taken to the UKH Graz, all with minor injuries. A 61-year-old Greek living in Germany, who was the driver of the German car that the polluter had hit, was taken to the LKH Judenburg with minor injuries. The entire accident site stretched over one kilometer. The A9 was closed for about an hour in the direction of Linz, and a diversion via the S6 was set up. The guardrail was damaged over a distance of several hundred meters, and the fire brigade had to tie up leaking equipment.
