Several injured – Serious accidents with fire, people being trapped and traffic jams

Several serious traffic accidents in Upper Austria on Tuesday caused difficult operations for rescue workers and a long sheet metal line and sometimes caused serious injuries. Trucks, cars and, in the early season, a motorcycle were all involved.

In the direction of Suben, car and truck drivers needed a lot of patience on the Innkreisautobahn. First, a small van drove into a truck trailer just across the border near the Pocking exit in Bavaria. The driver of the pickup truck was able to get to safety just in time when his vehicle burst into flames. The Suben fire brigade crossed the border to provide support and extinguished the vehicles. And in the backlog, there was another crash on the Upper Austrian side, near Ort im Innkreis: again a van hit a truck. The driver of the transporter was trapped, rescue helicopter Europe 3 was requested. Because of the rescue work and the landing of Europa 3, the A8 was closed at St. Marienkirchen. In the end, the traffic jam had grown to around 20 kilometers and reached as far as Ried im Innkreis.Timber transporter against car Two seriously injured car occupants were required by the collision of a timber transporter with a car in Rohrbach-Berg. The passenger was able to be freed from the wreck by first responders, who was the driver but stuck. Firefighters had to get in via the trunk and, with the support of the emergency medical team and a doctor who happened to be present, they were able to rescue the woman via the driver’s door. Here, too, the rescue helicopter was in action. And finally there was a crash in Neuhofen an der Krems: a car and a motorcycle collided here. The driver of the two-wheeler also came to the Kepler University Hospital by rescue helicopter. The course of the accident has now also been clarified: A 41-year-old driver was on the Kremstalbundesstraße in the direction of Neuhofen an der Krems and wanted to turn left onto Grundstraße. He stopped briefly to let an oncoming car pass, but failed to see the 23-year-old motorcyclist driving behind it. He drove off again and collided with the two-wheeler, who slid 30 meters along the side of the road and suffered serious injuries.
